Just in time for the gift-giving season, create a uniquely patterned shibori scarf for someone special… and one for yourself!
~
Shibori is the Japanese art of creating pattern by binding, folding, twisting, and stitching fabric before the dyeing process. Arashi shibori is created by wrapping fabric around a pipe then wrapping the fabric with ties that act as resists before dipping into the dye bath. Itajime shibori is a shape-resist technique where the fabric is folded then two pieces of wood or plexiglass are clamped on the outside to create the resist before dyeing.
~
A materials fee of $25 is included in tuition. We will provide everything needed for making two scarves plus fabric to practice on beforehand. Additional scarves will be available for purchase if students would like to make more than the two provided.

Using provided rubber stamps or linoleum cut block stamps that students create themselves, we will print on silk scarves with multiple colors of thickened dyes. This technique creates vibrant patterns and images on silk. Students will also have the option to "overdye" the scarves to make the colors of the stamps pop off of a colorful background. Each person will be able to make two (2) pillow covers to take home. Material fee included in tuition. No experience is necessary.

This workshop will focus on creating a file that can be used to print fabric yardage via digital print services such as Spoonflower (www.spoonflower.com). Each student should bring items, such as, drawings (yours or your children's), doodles, or photographs that they would want to use for design purposes. The instructor will have clip art on hand as well. During the one-day workshop, we will use Photoshop to create a repeat pattern file that can be used to print fabric, wallpaper, or wrapping paper by the yard or foot. Cover a pillow with fabric you design! Wrap presents this Christmas with your unique paper (vintage photos, holiday drawings made by your kids, etc.). No experience is necessary. Instructor will make it a pain-free computer process!
