Indigo, the King of Blues, and until the early 20th Century the only blue, is still the only natural blue that will withstand any considerable amount of time. Dating back to the third millenium BC, the dye was highly prized and remnants of indigo-dyed fabric have been found in Egyptian tombs. The process of dyeing has remained essentially unchanged since ancient times, yet most people still have an indigo-dyed garment hanging in their closets today.
~
The tuition includes a materials fee of $35. We will provide everything you need from gloves to protect your hands to items to dye including a tea towel, a triangular scarf (great for pets!), an infinity scarf (for you) and fabric for making your own 18" square pillow. Students are invited to bring their own white 100% cotton t-shirts or other white natural fabrics to dye in the indigo vats. All skill levels welcome!
